2020 was quite a tumultuous year. Several shocking things occurred but none was more shocking than the coronavirus pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic was extremely detrimental to the world as a whole. It affected the economy, the people, and the environment as well. The coronavirus pandemic robbed a lot of people of events they were looking forward to. Jobs were lost, students were unable to have proper graduation ceremonies and the stay-at-home orders thrust everyone into remote working.
Lots of social events were also canceled. The tourism industry lost a lot of money, music festivals such as Coachella got canceled, world tours were canceled, football leagues had to occur under very strange circumstances.
With the production of vaccines, there finally seems to be hope in the air. The world may return to normal or as close as possible to normal. With this in mind here are 4 things we hope to come back to in 2021.
Opening of Schools and Work Spaces
Many schools and corporations have switched to online learning and remote working to curb the spread of the virus. This has been exceedingly stressful for students and teachers, employees and employers, and many more people such as vendors who depend on the commute of students and adults.
The transition to online learning and working has also been hard for naturally extroverted people. Long periods of social isolation can be detrimental to the mental health of individuals. Hopefully, in 2021, schools and offices will be reopened.
In 2017, the tourism industry was worth $8.3 trillion. This accounted for over 10 percent of the world’s GDP. Due to restrictions put in place, tourism around the world has suffered immensely. Hopefully, in 2021, we will be able to travel again without fear of contracting the virus.
Many people had plans to travel, to take a sabbatical, or to simply get away from the monotonous day-to-day activities but the coronavirus pandemic has disrupted a lot of plans. In 2021, we are hopeful that we will be able to travel freely and visit the ones we love and the places we love.
Shameless plug that leads into the next thing we miss: I recently visited Nashville and made a stop at Gruhn Guitars. What an amazing place! Their showroom is fantastic and their vintage guitar collection is a truly one-of-a-kind experience.
In 2021, we hope for the return of live concerts. Although some artists have set up virtual concerts the experience of a live concert can simply not be matched. In 2020 artists were unable to go on tours. Many artists such as Harry Styles and Olivia O’Brien got their tours canceled abruptly due to the pandemic.
In 2021, we hope for safe concerts we can attend. We hope to listen to our favorite artists strumming their vintage guitars and singing the songs we know and love. We hope for the return of music festivals that offer pivotal and positive life-changing experiences. We hope for huge stadium concerts and we also hope for small bar shows with 20 people in attendance and underground artists with guitars hoping for their big break.
Life as we knew it!
Finally, we hope for life before the pandemic. Life before lockdowns and mandatory remote work. We hope to return to having lunch or dinner with friends and sharing a box of pizza. We hope to be able to visit our older family members without getting scared that they’ll contract the virus. We hope to defeat the virus in 2021.
So that’s our list! What did you miss in 2020 that you’re looking forward to in 2021?
